Back to Resolution

My Review: Easy paced read.

Bay is a young woman full of promise, but the death of her mother sends her tumbling over the edge into the hard partying life of a rich socialite. After a drunken argument with her step father, Bay agrees to his wishes that she leave for Australia.
In Australia Bay searches for her long lost father, and meets the mysterious hermit Flynn McKenna. Will Bay find what she is looking for on the island of Resolution?

This book caught my attention right away with it’s easy to read style and vivid descriptions of the settings. I even liked that there was a touch of mystery to the tale! Yet, there were times when I felt that the story moved slowly for my personal taste, but I liked how the pace was probably more realistic than in most books. There were brief instances of implied cursing, and mild cursing, that I feel I should mention, as well.

There were alot of things to like about this book, yet at the same time I had difficulty relating to any of the characters, or sympathizing with them. I think the reason was that I felt that the plot asked for the characters to have a bit more emotional depth than they did. Though I did like how the characters weren’t perfect at all and they had their flaws that made them human. As you can see I’m a bit mixed up about the characters.

Overall, Back to Resolution  was a book that was well written, but was rough around the edges. The descriptions were wonderful especially the ones about Australia. I think there are many readers out there who would whole-heartedly enjoy this pleasant, but tumultuous read.

Persuasion, Captain Wentworth and Cracklin' Cornbread (Jane Austen Takes the South, #3)Lucie’s Review:

A thoroughly modern, and Southern tale, with a Jane Austen twist!

Lucy Crawford knows she made a mistake all those years ago, but that still doesn’t make her in any hurry to see Jeremiah Chevy again. But she’s desperate and willing to do just about anything to keep her family home from foreclosure, even if it means renting it out to the free clinic run by Dr. Stroud and his new assistant fresh out of medical school, Dr. Jem Chevy.

Lucy has a love of history and the Civil War, she has a love of learning and appreciation for the history. But her family takes advantage of her and are unkind more often than not.

I really liked the Strouds and how kind they were towards Lucy. Jem hada good heart to help others, and even though he didn’t always show it, he had never forgotten about Lucy. I loved their interaction and howslowly they got to know each other again, and realized that they still had so much in common.

Overall this was a fun read with great characters, and a definite Jane Austen-like plotline. Great for Southern Jane Austen fans!

Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not?

My Review: A tale of love lost and rekindled, based on the hit Country song of the same title.

When I found out that Travis Thrasher was working with Thompson Squaure to write Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not?  I just knew that I had to read it! Not only do I absolutely adore the song, but everything I have read by Mr. Thrasher has been amazing. So I had high expectations for this book, and it didn’t let me down! I dove right into the story intrigued by the story and how the title would tie into the story. I loved the way that the story moved and shifted back and forth from the past to the present day, and from first person, to third person point of view. Usually both of those things drive me crazy, but with this story it worked, and I loved it.

I sped through this book, turning the pages steadily. I loved the way that Casey and Daniel connected and from the outside they were an unexpected couple, and how the book told their story through the years.

Overall, I throughly enjoyed this book from beginning to finish, it caught my attention from the very beginning. I definitely hope that Mr. Thrasher writes more books based on Country songs in the future!

Lucie’s Review:

A short, sweet Christmas read, filled with humor and misunderstanding.
An delightful Christmastime romantic comedy, great for kicking back and relaxing. Perfect for fans of sweet romantic comedies and holiday movies.
Emma Daley agrees to accompany her friends on a Christmas vacation house swap, she is more than happy to go somewhere snowy and cold for Christmas. I loved her friendship with Gillian, despite the ups and downs, she loves her for who she is and is a great friend.
Singer-Songwriter T. West Prescott, is on his way to a vacation of his own, but after mistakenly leaving behind some important music, he stops back at the house, meeting Emma and the Landers family, and decides to stick around.
This is a sweet, romantic comedy of a read, with fun characters that are all too relatable at times. One of my favorite characters ended up being Grant, who is just all-around a nice guy. I had a great time reading this book, it was fun, heartwarming, and romantic. It put a smile on my face. I really enjoyed it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Second Chance in Dry Creek

Lucie’s Review: My first trip to Dry Creek–and I loved it!

A strange girl appears on Gracie Stone’s doorstep, and utters the name “Calen” before passing out.
As it would turn out, the girl, Renee is Gracie’s neighbor, Calen’s daughter. Calen has always had a spot in his heart for Gracie Stone, but has always respected her space and choices.
Gracie struggles to rebuild her life after prison and hold her head high, is it possible that she might have a second chance at love?

Though I haven’t read any of the earlier books I had no trouble getting into this latest installment. There were times when I wished that I had read the other books so that I could have understood a little more of the backstory.

There was great interaction between Gracie and Calen, and I liked how they were a little older than your typical romance couple would be.

Gracie had to overcome the ghosts of her past and realize that her late-husband no longer had a hold on her anymore. I really liked how Calen wasn’t too agressive in the relationship, but gave Gracie the time to find herself again.

Gracie’s sons and daughters-in-law were so sweet, and created just a great sense of community. Overall this was a great read, I really liked how the relationship grew throughout the book. There was also a mystery, with plenty of suspense. I’m thinking that I’ll be taking some more trips to Dry Creek in the future!
